BROWNING AUTOMATIC RIFLE (BAR). Cal 30-06. S#00226. Bbl 27". The BAR was developed by John Browning in 1917, as an air cooled, gas operated, mag. fed, shoulder fired automatic rifle as a requirement for WWI. Early manufacturers included Colt, Winchester & Marlin Rockwell. Approx. 85,000 were mfg. Prior to the armistice. This particular example is manufactured by Group Industries & is designated the Model 1918A2. It utilizes both original military components and newly manufactured parts. Top of the receiver is marked Browning automatic rifle/US Cal 30M1918 A2/MAN, F, D By Group Industries / 00226". Hooded blade protected blade front sight. Ladder adjustable rear sight graduated to 1500 yards. Top of the barrel shows has original ordinance bomb proof showing through the reparkerized finish. Left side of the receiver has a three position selector for Safe, Semi & Full. Black composite buttstock with walnut forend that has a p. proof numbered 555660. MAGS: 1-20 round. CONDITION: Overall very fine with over 98% of its reparkerized metal finish showing some minor rub marks and light handling marks. Bright shiny bore with nice rifling.
